About Peter
Peter Pavusa, Special Counsel, Accredited Specialist (Fam.) brings a wealth of experience to lead Merthyr Law’s Family Law team.
Peter is dedicated to providing each client with the benefit of his extensive experience and expertise as an Accredited Family Law Specialist in a common sense, caring but focused way that enables clients to readily understand the advice given. In addition, Peter provides advice to achieve time and cost-effective solutions and the best result possible in the circumstances of each case. Peter’s skills in communication as a result of his training as a mediator are also applied to communicate effectively both with clients and solicitors representing the other party in a negotiation or dispute.
He has practised in family law for over 30 years and was one of the first practitioners to become an accredited specialist in 1997, the second year accreditation was available. Peter, who has been a partner of his own successful practice for over 15 years, is a skilled negotiator. He is experienced in all areas of Family Law including extensive experience in complex property settlements including dealing with companies both private and publicly listed and trusts. He has a close association with other professionals including financial planners and accountants to achieve a time and cost-effective result for clients to resolve property settlement disputes. He is experienced in all areas of Family Law including property and children’s cases, Hague Convention cases, surrogacy and domestic violence matters. He commands respect in the Family Law profession.
Peter strives to negotiate including at private mediations as a preference to litigate, to achieve timely and cost-efficient results for clients. Having said this, Peter willingly applies his extensive court experience by litigating with fervour to ensure fair outcomes when negotiations stagnate.
Peter willingly applies his extensive court experience in the Family Court of Australia, Federal Court of Australia for parenting and property settlement matters and in Queensland state courts relating domestic violence applications in the Magistrates Court.
Peter’s receives consistent referrals from clients who he has represented. They rate Peter’s calm demeanour, genuine care and strong negotiation skills to lead to positive, fair results.
Apart from keeping up with the latest Family Law developments, in his spare time, Peter loves golfing, bushwalking and cycling.
